sweet victory, you taste so good

3 Dec

National Novel Writing Month is over, and I’m back on my blog with good news: I won! Over 50,000 words in 29 days, and I couldn’t be happier with them. A lot happened to me as a writer this month, and I can guarantee I’ll be on here in the next few days and weeks hashing through it all, but for now I’m going to keep it simple.

NaNoWriMo is such a challenge for me. It pushes me past what I think my limits are every year. What a fantastic feeling it is to push your limits and come out victorious!

And I wasn’t alone this time around. I have two writing friends that participate and pretty much cream me with how quickly they get their words in (you two know who you are… suckers), but this year I also had my dad. And we finished neck and neck which was special.

I want to gush about what it was like writing with him and what it was like seeing him cross over the finish line with me, but the words just aren’t coming. Not like I want them to, anyway. Maybe I need to process it still. For now I’ll just leave it saying I’m bursting with pride over it all.

I’m contemplating vloging my process in writing as well… only because I found myself wishing someone had done that already so I could follow and see what it was like for them from the writing of the first draft all the way to publication. Then I thought, well, maybe I should do that. It might be fun. Or I might just embarrass myself. Maybe that would be fun too… I’ll probably make a little video this week and post it if I’m not horrified by it 🙂

Do you know any writers who have done that? I’ve only seen vlogs after they get a deal with an agent or publisher.

Anyway, I’ll be back on here soon. Maybe with a vlog and definitely with a post on my insecurities with my art which is the hurdle I’m sprinting towards right now.

Happy writing, dustin
